The SPARK Sensory Clinic will evaluate your preschooler or school age child in order to highlight their strengths but also hear about your concerns. We will focus on assessing your child's sensory processing and ability to engage with others and their environment. Signs of sensory challenges in older children can include being constantly "on the move", trouble with loud, busy environments, being clumsy or accident prone, or appearing disengaged. These difficulties also impact the child's ability to be social with peers, successful in school, or enjoy family time. Working with the parents to help them learn strategies, treatment is play-based, fun and engaging that uses a variety of sensory experiences in order to support functional change. Parents and the occupational therapist will collaborate to set all goals for treatment. "Homework" will be given to parents between sessions to help increase effectiveness of sessions. Together with your child we will develop a toolbox of strategies and activities to help build your child's capacity for self-regulation.
